Selah Gospel Choir (SGC) is a haven for people who want to sing high-quality gospel music but are either unable to find it in their own churches or do not identify with being in a church at all. It is an un-auditioned community choir that is not directly connected to any religious organization. While SGC is not religiously affiliated, its membership consists of Christians from varying denominations, Jews, Atheists, Buddhists, religious and secular Humanists, and many others.
Our membership is diverse, racially and generationally, including those who identify as straight, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, genderfluid, genderqueer, and more - everyone calls it home. It is a place where everyone is welcomed and shown respect inclusive of our many differences.
At its first concert, SGC had 11 members. Today, each concert performance has close to 60 members and its audience has heard the voices of nearly 200 people in its 19 concert seasons. Circling around central values such as love, diversity and community, SGC demonstrates these values as they sing for a purpose greater than themselves.
This vibrant and challenging ensemble strives to remain authentic to the traditional and contemporary forms of Black gospel music.
Looking forward to seeing you!
